About Our Pastors

The Word “Pastor” means “Shepherd”. The New Testament is clear that Jesus Christ is the Chief Shepherd of his people -- and the only Good Shepherd.

Christ also gives “under-shepherds” to the church to feed and equip Christ-followers in Him. These leaders are variously described in 1 Peter 5:1-51 Timothy 3:1-7,  and Titus 1:5-9 as elders, shepherds, and overseers. The Constitution of Grace Bible Church designates that a team of shepherd/pastors referred to as the “Elder Board” leads the church. We have a full-time “Senior Pastor” who serves on the Elder Board with 4 volunteer shepherds. The Elder Board holds final organizational authority at the church.

Many other leaders at Grace Bible Church assist the Elder Board in serving and shepherding the church. These other leaders serve variously as assistant pastors, administrators, nursery volunteers, teachers, small group leaders, and deacons. No matter what their area of service is, they all have the goal of knowing Christ and making Him known. We hope to train up as many of our members as possible to be servant leaders in their own areas of influence. While we do believe in official leadership -- we also believe that every follower of Christ is called to use their gifts and resources in ways that show God’s love and justice to the world.

OUR ELDER BOARD

About Our Senior Pastor

Dave McMurry functions as our Senior Pastor. He loves his job and focuses his time on a) revealing Jesus from the Scriptures; b) leading the church staff; c) working with the elder board to equip volunteer ministry leaders; and d) meeting new people.

Dave has been married to Autumn for 15 years (she likes to say they got married at age 12). He hopes you get a chance to meet her and see how her eyes sparkle. They have two beautiful daughters and one ruggedly handsome son. Their family enjoys playing sports, taking walks, cooking, community theater, and all kinds of music. Dave has always enjoyed working out, but living in an Army town made him realize he is not very consistent.

He also enjoys whistling, eating barbecue, and day-dreaming about all sorts of things.

Dave grew up in Central Texas and served as an intern and as Junior High Youth Pastor at Temple Bible Church from 1991-1993 and 1995-1999. He also volunteered in ministry at Grace Bible Church of College Station, Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Manchester, Mo., and First Evangelical Free Church of St. Louis, Mo.

Dave received a Master of Divinity degree from Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mo., in 2002. He made a lot of Presbyterian friends in St. Louis, and then returned to Temple Bible Church as Children & Family Pastor from 2002-2006. In 2006, Temple Bible Church sent out Dave and other leaders to found Grace Bible Church. Public worship services began in August 2006. Today, the adventure continues...

About Our Volunteer Elders

Rod Chisholm is the Chairman of our Elder board.  Rod and his wife Janice have been married for 30 years and their fourth child is just leaving the nest.  Rod is the Director of Public Works for Fort Hood and Janice is a piano teacher. Rod and Janice are natives of Colorado, and recently moved to Central Texas after many years at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  They joined our sister church in Temple about a year before Grace Bible Church was started and were part of our original core group.  God had great timing in bringing them to us and they share their gifts of wisdom, hospitality, and music for the glory of God.  They have been involved in almost every ministry at the church and have a heart for mentoring young believers.

Brian Dosa is Secretary of the Elder Board.  He and his wife Roberta just married off their oldest child, and are still raising their one year-old at home.  They have 6 others in between!  God has blessed them with incredible wisdom and patience, and we are blessed to have them.  They are natives of Delaware, but have spent several tours in Central Texas.  Team Dosa spends a lot of time serving in the nursery and hosting small groups at their home.  In between shepherding the church and loving his family, Brian leads one of the test directorates at Operational Test command at Fort Hood.

Lauris Shepherd is an at-large member of the Elder Board.  He and his wife Rhonda have 6 grown daughters, and two sons in high school.  Although they grew up in Kansas and California respectively, they have a long history in Killeen.  They have spent 17 years sharing Jesus and their lives with military families at Fort Hood.  Lauris is a regional overseer for the Navigators Ministry.  Their passion for authentically walking with Christ makes them a wonderful blessing to the team.

OUR CHURCH STAFF

About Our Administrative Secretary

Darla Voss helps bring order and joy to the offices of Grace Bible Church.  She leads our team of office volunteers, balances books, and functions as Dave's personal assistant.  Dave likes to say it is hard for anyone to create order as fast as he creates chaos, but Darla does a great job!  Darla grew up in Odessa, Texas and has been married to Steve Voss for almost 30 years (which is odd because she is only 29)!  Steve is a computer consultant for PDI, an avid motorcyclist, and a gifted financial counselor. They have three grown children, six grandchildren, and enjoy landscaping, travel and each other.

About Our Nursery Director

Tracey Anderson organizes our highly skilled army of nursery volunteers.  She has professional child care experience, and has assisted in multiple new church start-ups.  Tracey oversees programming and training for all Sunday morning childcare from age zero up through pre-school.  She is an avid Facebooker, seamstress, and Rockband player.  Tracey has been married to Mark for about 20 years, and they have four delightful children: one grown, one almost grown, and two little ones.  Mark serves as a deacon at the church and a doc at Fort Hood.  Mark's gifts of interpretive dance make church leadership gatherings way more fun than they should be.

About Our Assistant Pastor

Stephen Watson serves as our Assistant Pastor.  Stephen is a gifted pastor and administrator.  He helps with education and equipping ministries at the church and is the primary leader in our Youth Ministry.

Stephen has been married to Lindsey for 4 years and they have a beautiful newborn daughter.  Both of them enjoy teaching and are avid readers.  Lindsey has been teaching school at a Classical School in Waco for the last several years, and Stephen teaches at Central Texas Christian School.  They are  both native Central Texans:  Stephen grew up in Florence and Lindsey in Temple & Belton.

Stephen felt called to pastor at a young age and has preached and led many small Baptist churches during his college and seminary years. Stephen received his Master of Divinity degree from Truett Seminary at Baylor University.  After pastoring a particularly troubled church for about a year, Stephen and Lindsey decided they would prefer serving without pay in a healthy church over taking a “full-time” pastoral role in an unhealthy situation.  After a one-year detox from vocational pastoring, Stephen got a call from Dave McMurry at Grace Bible Church.  Grace Bible hired Stephen as part-time staff in the spring of 2008 to lead the youth and occasionally preach.  Stephen has begun taking on more administrative and other assistant pastor duties as the church continues to grow.

About Our Worship Pastor

Chris Webster serves as our Worship Pastor.  Chris is our resident artist and he uses his gifts in musical and graphic arts to help us vividly encounter Jesus Christ every Sunday.

After growing up in the same church in Austin and serving as Youth Interns together for four years at Temple Bible Church, Chris married his sweetheart Brooke.  They have been married for over three years now, and have a very cute little baby boy.  Brooke has taught school and tutored at-risk children, but currently she enjoys being a full-time mom. Chris works full-time as the Web Services Manager for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.

In between all his other duties, Chris continues to write music.  He has written some of our favorite worship songs, and he is also working on a new independent album (Hanbury Road) about life and love, after many years with the band “Three Nails Short”.

After leading youth in worship at Temple Bible Church and at various camps for several years, Chris was convinced by Dave to help us start Grace Bible Church in 2006. Dave and Chris enjoy meeting together every week to study and pray over the passage for that upcoming Sunday.
